Teaching in College for Seniors
At the heart of the College for Seniors program are dedicated volunteer instructors.
While many instructors are retired academics, others with no formal teaching background have successfully facilitated learning experiences centered on their areas of passionate interest or expertise. To best orient the first time instructor and to enhance the skills of experienced teachers, a number of guides and programs are available:
Y’All Come: Course & Teaching Idea Exchange
Consider teaching a course in our College for Seniors. Join us for Y’All Come! Course & Teaching Idea Exchange. Volunteer members of our Curriculum Committee and seasoned CFS instructors are on-hand to discuss course topics and to advise on course proposal preparation. Please RSVP to Anne Mock, 828.251.6198 or amock@unca.edu. The next Y'All Come session will be on May 14, 2012 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Guides
An instructor guidebook and a facilitator guidebook (currently being updated) have been prepared by CFS committees. Anne Mock amock@unca.edu can provide information on both guidebooks.
Faculty Development Workshops
Workshops are designed and offered by the Faculty Development Subcommittee twice a year. They provide the faculty with an integrated suite of (optional) workshops, offered to enhance instructional skills in the College for Seniors. The next Faculty Workshop Day will be Tuesday, March 13, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm.
