North Carolina Center for Creative Retirement

Research Committee

The Research Committee, chaired by Steve Schleifer, conducts surveys of members and other Center stakeholders.

Conducting research has been a priority at NCCCR from the program's very beginning, not only in the form of course evaluations and demographic information about members, but including studies of national significance. For example, the Center, along with UNC Asheville sociology professor, Dr. Bill Haas, conducted a study of the "Economic Implications of In-migrating Retirees on Western North Carolina," in 1990, under a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commissions (ARC). In 1994-95, the Center conducted a study of five types of lifelong learning programs in the United States with funding from the AARP Andrus Foundation.
